Portfolio Update – Down 2.56% in September 2011

My portfolio balances at close of trading on 30th September were:

Ticker Price (C$) Price Change Percentage Industry
BHP $ 69.75 -16.37% 6.1% Materials
COS.TO $ 20.39 -12.90% 5.9% Energy
ERF.TO $ 25.87 -9.77% 6.2% Energy
INTC $ 22.39 13.60% 7.5% Technology
MFC.TO $ 11.94 -10.83% 3.6% Financial
PHY-U.TO $ 14.75 -5.38% 7.7% Gold
SVU $ 6.99 -10.41% 4.4% Services
TD.TO $ 74.59 -3.72% 6.5% Financial

KMP $ 71.82 4.55% 5.2% Energy
S&P Fund $ 97.08 -0.93% 15.3% US Equity Fund
Bond Fund $ 212.75 1.77% 30.3% Bond Fund
Cash     0.6% Cash
Total     100.0%

Overall my portfolio is down 1.22% since last month, despite additional cash contributions. Without these cash contributions the portfolio would be down 2.56%.

For comparison my TI Index is down 6.13%, the DOW is down 6.03% and the TSX is down 8.97%.

My bond holdings helped with capital preservation, but my gold holdings are down. A fall in the value of the Canadian Dollar helped to support the value of my US stocks.

The major factors this month were continued European debt troubles, and the spectre of a possible double-dip recession in the US.
